SNCB: Sensor Network Connectivity Bridge

The Sensor Network Connectivity Bridge (SNCB) is a software component that provides an interface between the SNEE Streaming Data Service and the wireless sensor network.   Currently, it the only hardware platform supported are Tmote Sky and TelosB mote hardware.  The following functionality is provided by this component:
A metadata collector that a computes link quality estimator using the ETX metric is used to derive a connectivity graph which constitutes the metadata used by SNEE to compile a query.
An over-the-air programming tool, based on Deluge, but capable of sending specific images to specific nodes.
A multi-hop protocol to ensure that nodes start executing the query plan at the same time
A  generic command dissemination framework, e.g.,  to start/stop query plans.
Additional details and source code of the SNCB can be found at link.

The Sensor Network Connectivity Bridge (SNCB) is a software component that provides an interface between the SNEE Streaming Data Service and the wireless sensor network.  It enables query plans that have been generated by the SNEE optimiser to be translated into executable nesC source code, and disseminated in nodes in the network.  Currently, the hardware platforms supported are Tmote Sky and TelosB mote hardware.

The following functionality is provided by this component:

  • A metadata collector that a computes link quality estimator using the ETX metric is used to derive a connectivity graph which constitutes the metadata used by SNEE to compile a query.
  • An over-the-air programming tool, based on Deluge, but capable of sending specific images to specific nodes, is used to disseminate the query plan to the nodes in the sensor network.
  • A multi-hop protocol is used to ensure that nodes start executing the query plan at the same time
  • A generic command dissemination framework is used, e.g.,  to start/stop query plans.

Below is a video clip presenting a demo of the SNCB:
